  • New technology - Lasers!

Following on from our last blog read on for information on our new K Laser!

You may well have been given laser therapy by your own physio - it's been used in human medicine for years.  Laser Therapy, or “photobiomodulation”, is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling.

Laser Therapy has been utilized by physical therapists, nurses and doctors as far back as the 1970’s, however technical advances in laser miniaturization and durability pioneered by K-Laser have allowed laser therapy to be used for a wider range of patients.  With modern technology the treatment windows are now only a matter of minutes with no sedation required making it perfect for our pets too.

During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.

A range of different conditions can be treated in all of our pets, these include

Osteoarthritis

Post-Surgical Pain

Joint Pain and Oedema

Neck and Back Pain

Tendinopathies

Hip and Elbow Dysplasia

Ligament Sprains

Burns

Muscle Strains

Chronic Wounds including Tail Tip Injuries

Pre Surgical Treatment

Post-Orthopaedic Surgical

Post-Traumatic Injury

Rehabilitation

Generally most pets would start with a course of six treatments over a three week period and then booster top ups as required classically on a 1- 3 month basis depending on their condition.  Most of our surrounding referral centres (including Fitzpatrick Referrals) advocate the use of these lasers and the Cube 4 K-Laser that we now have at the barn is covered under most pet insurance policies.  Cost wise six sessions would be £150.
