Bunny Behaviour
Rabbits are the third most popular companion animal in the UK. In 2019 the PDSA’s Animal Wellbeing Report documented that 900,000 rabbits live in homes throughout the United Kingdom. So, do rabbits use body language to communicate their feelings like our dog and cat family members do? The simple answer is yes.
Rabbits have a long history of domestication spanning back to 1st century BC, but it wasn’t until the 19th century that they were kept and shown as the pets we know today. Unfortunately, these complex, intelligent animals are one of the most misunderstood companions we share our lives with.
Rabbits, like cats and dogs, speak volumes. They use body language, ear, whisker & facial positioning, vocalisation, scent marking and thumping to communicate.
Understanding, respect and providing the correct environment and companionship is exactly what our rabbit friends need and deserve for a happy life.
