With all the doom and gloom in the press at the moment we thought a real feel good Case of the Month was in order!
Shera is typical of her breed. A one year old female Bengal cat she has both good looks and athleticism. Unfortunately though her active lifestyle did lead her into trouble!
For those of you who follow us on Facebook you would have seen the fantastic news yesterday! Finn has been found - have a read of his amazing story and the importance of microchipping your pets.
Sadly we are getting nearer to that time of year that many a pet owner fears….firework night!
It can be a very stressful time for our pets as they can be very anxious of all the noises that suddenly appear and they don’t understand that they won’ get hurt. These days however it is that it’s not just a ‘one night’ occurrence, they start a few weeks before and can continue on for a few weeks after making it impossible for us to know when we might get caught out.
After heroic efforts from everyone we completed our Consiton Challenge in style!
An epic drive by Andrew and most of the team Friday afternoon in a minibus took nine hours to get to the Lake District! Karen and Louise headed up pronto after finisihing evening surgery Friday night and thankfully arrived in Coniston by 1.30am. The local Youth Hostel had provided Tipi's for us to stay in - a bit chilly but comfortable, and we had ample hot showers which were very much needed over the weekend! Although for some of us it was a rude introduction into the world of camping - a first and last we suspect!
Sam is our very brave Case of the Month for August - it's not very often you have a tumour that weighs nearly 20% of your body weight surgically removed and make a complete recovery! Read on for Sam's amazing story but be warned there are some gory photos!
This month we saw a case that prompted us to think a little about breeding in our pets. Bailey is a young, male Labrador who had been brought in by his owner who has been thinking about using him for breeding.
Whoops! You can tell it's been busy - prepare yourselves for two cases in quick succession!
Firstly here is a very rare case of Diabetes Insipidus in little Tasha. Think you know all about Diabetes? You are probably thinking of Diabetes Mellitus that affects your blood sugar levels; Diabetes Insipidus is a complete different kettle of fish!
Those of you with rabbits have probably seen the worrying news in the press recently regarding a new strain of fatal viral haemorrhagic disease that has swept in from Europe.
We're very proud to announce that we have welcomed 60,000 new pets to the Oak Barn Family! Have a read of Plan Bee's article below on the plight of our bees and how at the Barn we are trying to help the environment.
