Even though we are based in a 400 year old barn at Oak Barn Vets we are very keen to offer the most up to date treatments to keep all our pets happy and healthy!
Spring time is here – time for those tortoises to come out of hibernation!
Around this time of year we start thinking about our scaly friends waking up. Remember that the smaller ones should not be hibernated for more than 8-10 weeks and the larger species, no more than 16 weeks.
We had a fantastic time on Bank Holiday Monday with the Guildford Lions at the Charity Fun Dog Show!
With the most entries so far making judging difficult for Jamie Crittall and our Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Nikki Nelson-Smith! It didn't rain and all the dogs were very well behaved with no squabbles or escapees!! Best of all, lots of money was raised for our local Guildford Charities!

Instead we will be talking about Addison’s disease, a condition which we can encounter from time to time and one which, if not recognised early, can be potentially life threatening.
Many of you will have read our blog before Christmas when we first heard of a major change in the way that RSA will insure your pets.
A shocking new survey involving over 7000 dog owners by the Dogs Trust has revealed that over 48% of pet dogs have eaten chocolate intended for humans, and over 5% have become seriously ill from it. Of these, 15% have required urgent veterinary treatment and in extreme cases the dogs sadly died from the effects of chocolate poisoning.
We all hate ticks and have known about pockets of Lymes disease in the UK carried by their bite but worryingly there have now been cases of dogs contracting a serious tick borne infection called Babesiosis.
Every now and then we see a condition and know that we will likely never see another again in our careers. Rory is one of those patients!
