Zanzi is a very precious puppy, it's thankfully not every day that we drop everything at the Barn and end up with most staff members in theatre fighting to save a life.(Be warned there are some gory photos!)
Here at Oak Barn Vets we strive to stick to our mantra of “Traditional Values, Modern Practice.” This means that we keep up to date with modern developments in diagnostics, treatments, anaesthesia and equipment so that we can provide as safe and effective treatment and care for our patients as possible.
Following on from our last blog read on for information on our new K Laser!
You may well have been given laser therapy by your own physio - it's been used in human medicine for years. Laser Therapy, or “photobiomodulation”, is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling.
Congenital heart defects in puppies are thankfully very rare - have a read of Pipsqueak's amazing story as our youngest Case of the Month yet!
Even though we are based in a 400 year old barn at Oak Barn Vets we are very keen to offer the most up to date treatments to keep all our pets happy and healthy!
Spring time is here – time for those tortoises to come out of hibernation!
Around this time of year we start thinking about our scaly friends waking up. Remember that the smaller ones should not be hibernated for more than 8-10 weeks and the larger species, no more than 16 weeks.
We had a fantastic time on Bank Holiday Monday with the Guildford Lions at the Charity Fun Dog Show!
With the most entries so far making judging difficult for Jamie Crittall and our Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Nikki Nelson-Smith! It didn't rain and all the dogs were very well behaved with no squabbles or escapees!! Best of all, lots of money was raised for our local Guildford Charities!
Addison’s disease, never heard of it!? Well Harry has!
This month, for those of you with a more sensitive disposition, you will be glad to be spared gory photos of surgery and trauma. Instead we will be talking about Addison’s disease, a condition which we can encounter from time to time and one which, if not recognised early, can be potentially life threatening.
Many of you will have read our blog before Christmas when we first heard of a major change in the way that RSA will insure your pets.
