As many of you know last year we entered the Guildford Lions charity raft race and although we won a cup for determination there was more swimming involved than we had planned!
Our case of the month highlights some incredible pictures taken from inside the bowel. This bowel belongs to a handsome and impressive Siberian cat called Sky. Sky lives as an indoor cat with his brother and is only a youngster at 7 months of age.
As many of you know we are holding an evening presentation on First Aid for your Pets.
This will be in conjunction with Corrine Lisle from For Paws. The talk will be aimed at giving you practical tips and advice on emergency care for your pets. Topics will include first line management of wounds, potential toxins and what to do with intestinal upsets, fits and fainting.
We had a great time on Bank Holiday Monday supporting the Guildford Lions with their annual Easter Fayre Dog Show! There were 192 entries on what turned out to be a lovely sunny Spring day! Best of all the day raised £4000 all for local Guildford Charities which is an amazing sum of money - the most they have ever raised.
Fingers crossed this glorious weather lasts over the Easter weekend! Especially as on Easter Monday (21st April) we will be running our Fun Dog Show with the Guildford Lions again this year. All funds raised are going to help local Guildford charities. The show is being held as before at Shalford Park (GU4 8AA) and registration starts at 11am with classes only costing a £1.00 to enter. We hope to see you there for a bit of fun and to raise lots of money for these great causes!
Many of you will have seen the worrying news over the weekend of a TB outbreak in cats that has spread to people. This is the first time that a person has ever caught TB from their cat and although this is a concern it is incredibly unusual and should not cause alarm.
Our case of the month for March 2014 is lovely Maddie. She is an 8 year old Jack Russell Terrier bitch who lives with Tilly her sister. Interestingly her case highlights the importance of considering neutering your pet. Be warned though there are some gruesome pictures!
We will all be cheering Sammy and Freddie on tomorrow at Crufts! Here they are on the front page of the Surrey Advertiser today with their owner Hazel Russell-Davis. They are part of the team relay and despite the fact they only have little legs they can really put on a turn of speed!
February's case of the month is the very sweet Tilly, a mild mannered, nine and a half year old Shetland Sheepdog or “Sheltie” as they are more commonly known. She came to Oak barn Vets suffering from a limp in her left foreleg which seemed to have come on quite suddenly. Tilly loves her ball and is generally an active dog but when Louise saw her she had developed quite a hobble.
Many dog owners will have heard about Alabama Rot in the media this week and the worrying news that it is killing our dogs out on their usual walks. To put your mind at rest this is a recent development in the investigation of something known as Seasonal Canine Illness (SCI) that we have been reporting for some time now (link to our blog from October 2012).
